Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s robust industrial operations in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland. This professional role is critical in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors within a bustling industrial estate. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring full compliance with Jamaican occupational safety and health regulations, as well as international best practices. You will be at the forefront of identifying potential hazards, conducting thorough risk assessments, and initiating proactive measures to prevent accidents and promote a culture of safety. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in alignment with local regulations and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement within the industrial estate.
- Perform detailed risk assessments for various operational activities, processes, and equipment, recommending and overseeing the implementation of effective control measures.
- Organize and lead engaging safety training sessions for all employees and contractors, covering topics such as hazard recognition, emergency response, and safe work practices.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure strict adherence to all legal requirements from regulatory bodies such as the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (Jamaica).
- Manage and maintain accurate safety records, documentation, and reporting systems.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on all matters related to occupational health and safety.
- Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational safety and health legislation and regulations.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
