The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs that protect our client’s most valuable assets: their people. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems (HSMS) in line with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections of the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Design and deliver engaging health and safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Jamaican Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and industry-specific regulations.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, contributing to policy development and strategic planning.
- Prepare and maintain detailed safety records, reports, and documentation.
- Lead emergency response planning, drills, and crisis management efforts.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage the procurement and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OSH legislation and international safety standards.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
