Job Description
The Health & Safety Officer for our Discovery Bay Industrial Estate will be a pivotal figure in upholding and enhancing our safety culture. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety programs and policies in alignment with local and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement within the industrial estate.
- Lead the investigation of all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide engaging and effective health and safety training to all employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and regulatory compliance.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, ensuring legal compliance and promoting a proactive safety culture.
- Oversee the implementation of emergency response plans, including drills and crisis management procedures.
- Manage hazardous waste disposal protocols and environmental compliance aspects within the estate.
- Monitor and analyze health and safety performance data, preparing reports and recommendations for senior management.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and external safety consultants as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in occupational health and safety management, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS regulations and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent professional safety certification.
- Experience with safety management systems software.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Fluency in English.
