Job Description

Are you a seasoned Health & Safety professional with a passion for creating secure and compliant industrial environments? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed clients operating within a vibrant industrial estate in Coral Gardens, Montego Bay. This pivotal role demands an individual with a robust understanding of occupational health and safety regulations, best practices, and a proactive approach to risk management within complex industrial operations. You will be instrumental in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring adherence to all local and international standards, and protecting the well-being of all personnel on-site.

As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs tailored to an industrial setting. This includes identifying potential hazards associated with heavy machinery, chemical handling, logistics, and manufacturing processes, then devising effective control measures. Your expertise will guide site management and employees through regular training sessions, incident prevention strategies, and emergency preparedness plans. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national (e.g., OSH Act) and international standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, near misses, and occupational diseases to determine root causes and implement preventive measures.
  • Organize and deliver safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as machinery safety, chemical handling, fire safety, and emergency response.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation and keep abreast of new regulations and best practices.
  • Prepare and present detailed H&S reports to management, outlining performance, compliance status, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Lead emergency response teams and facilitate emergency drills, including fire evacuations and first aid responses.
  • Advise management on safety-related investments, equipment, and training needs to enhance overall safety performance.
  • Manage and maintain safety records, permits, certifications, and licenses.

Required Skills

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate or equivalent professional H&S qualification
  • Proven experience in Health & Safety management within an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Thorough knowledge of Jamaican OSH Act and relevant international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001)
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs
  • First Aid and CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001)
  • Auditing experience for H&S management systems
  • Project management skills related to safety initiatives
  • Knowledge of specific industrial processes relevant to the Montego Bay area (e.g., logistics, light manufacturing)
