Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join a reputable industrial estate client based in Cross Roads, Kingston. This professional role is critical to ensuring a safe, compliant, and healthy working environment across diverse industrial operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring occupational health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in line with national regulations and international best practices. You will play a pivotal role in fostering a proactive safety culture, minimizing risks, and responding effectively to incidents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems (HSMS) tailored to the industrial estate's diverse operations.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identifications, and safety audits across the estate, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure full compliance with Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., Factories Act, Labour Relations Code) and relevant international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Organise and deliver engaging safety training sessions and workshops for all levels of staff, contractors, and visitors, promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and implementing preventative measures.
  • Manage and maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, training logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Advise management on health and safety matters, including the procurement of safety equipment, process improvements, and emergency preparedness.
  • Develop and manage emergency response plans, including fire safety, chemical spills, and natural disaster protocols.
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies, representing the estate during inspections and ensuring timely submission of required reports.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years (48 months) of progressive experience in an Occupational Health & Safety role, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Jamaican Occupational Health & Safety legislation and international standards (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH General Certificate).
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough risk assessments, hazard analyses, and safety audits.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and train at all organisational levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Advanced professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, Certified Safety Professional – CSP).
  • Experience in a multi-tenant industrial estate or complex operational environment.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
