Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed client’s industrial estates in Pembroke Hall, St. Andrew. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional committed to fostering a robust safety culture and ensuring compliance with all national and international health and safety regulations. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs that protect our client’s most valuable assets: their people and their operations.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a strong understanding of industrial safety protocols, risk management, and incident prevention. You will be responsible for identifying potential hazards, conducting thorough risk assessments, and collaborating with management and employees to implement effective control measures. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems in line with local regulations and international best practices (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, near misses, and occupational diseases to determine root causes and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Develop and deliver engaging safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as hazard communication, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and corrective actions, preparing reports for management and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure all plant and equipment are safe to operate and comply with relevant safety standards.
  • Manage emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
  • Collaborate with department managers and supervisors to embed safety practices into daily operations.
  • Stay updated with changes in health and safety legislation and industry best practices, advising management on necessary adjustments.

Required Skills

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent professional H&S qualification
  • Proven experience in Health & Safety management within an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Thorough knowledge of Jamaican OSH Act and international safety standards
  • Excellent risk assessment and incident investigation skills
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and lead change in safety culture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Lead Auditor certification (e.g., ISO 45001)
  • Experience with chemical safety and hazardous waste management
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Project management experience in H&S initiatives
