Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our dedicated team, overseeing an active industrial estate in Mandeville, Manchester. This professional role is critical to maintaining a robust safety culture and ensuring full compliance with all local and international occupational health and safety regulations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and providing expert guidance to management and staff. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety programs and policies in line with local regulations and best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide health and safety training to all employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a strong safety-first culture.
- Advise management on safety-related issues, regulatory changes, and new safety technologies or methodologies.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports on safety performance, incident trends, and compliance status.
- Manage emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies and ensure all required permits and certifications are current.
- Promote employee engagement in health and safety initiatives through various communication channels.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial estate or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong analytical skills for conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking for training sessions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training programs.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making under pressure.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
