Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s dynamic team within a prominent industrial estate in Trench Town, Kingston. This professional role is pivotal in ensuring a safe, compliant, and healthy working environment for all personnel and visitors. As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and maintaining robust health and safety management systems tailored to the unique demands of an industrial setting. Your expertise will guide proactive risk assessments, foster a strong safety culture, and ensure adherence to both local and international occupational health and safety standards.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced professional to apply their in-depth knowledge of industrial safety protocols, hazard identification, and incident investigation. You will be expected to conduct regular site inspections, identify potential hazards, recommend corrective actions, and oversee their implementation. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with Jamaican OHS regulations and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across the industrial estate.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending preventative measures.
  • Organise and deliver engaging safety training programs and workshops for all employees, ensuring continuous awareness and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure all machinery, equipment, and processes comply with safety standards and operational permits.
  • Oversee the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to foster a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement.
  • Stay updated with changes in health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
  • Prepare and present regular safety performance reports to management.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Strong understanding of industrial hazards and control measures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organisational skills.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Familiarity with fire safety management and emergency response planning.
