Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s dynamic team within a prominent industrial estate in Trench Town, Kingston. This professional role is pivotal in ensuring a safe, compliant, and healthy working environment for all personnel and visitors. As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and maintaining robust health and safety management systems tailored to the unique demands of an industrial setting. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with Jamaican OHS regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across the industrial estate.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending preventative measures.
- Organise and deliver engaging safety training programs and workshops for all employees, ensuring continuous awareness and compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance documentation.
- Ensure all machinery, equipment, and processes comply with safety standards and operational permits.
- Oversee the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce safety protocols.
- Collaborate with management and employees to foster a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement.
- Stay updated with changes in health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Prepare and present regular safety performance reports to management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Strong understanding of industrial hazards and control measures.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organisational skills.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Familiarity with fire safety management and emergency response planning.
