Are you a seasoned Health & Safety professional passionate about creating incident-free workplaces within an industrial setting? Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join our team, dedicated to overseeing and enhancing safety protocols within a bustling industrial estate in Liberty, St. Ann’s Bay. This pivotal role involves designing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs, ensuring strict adherence to national and international occupational health and safety regulations. You will be instrumental in cultivating a robust safety-first culture, conducting thorough risk assessments, and developing emergency response plans to safeguard our employees and assets. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and systems in line with local regulations and international best practices (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Lead and facilitate incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence, preparing detailed reports for management.
  • Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs for employees at all levels, covering topics such as hazard identification, emergency procedures, safe work practices, and the proper use of PPE.
  • Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and certifications related to health and safety are current and readily available.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to promote a positive safety culture, encouraging active participation in safety initiatives and reporting.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate health and safety records, reports, and statistical data for management review and regulatory compliance.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and train diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate, OSHA 30-hour certification).
  • Experience with ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems implementation and auditing.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Tertiary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
