Are you a seasoned Health & Safety professional with a passion for creating secure and compliant industrial environments? Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to lead our safety initiatives within a vibrant industrial estate setting in Frankfield, Clarendon. This pivotal role requires a proactive individual capable of developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs to ensure full compliance with local regulations and international best practices.

The ideal candidate will be instrumental in fostering a strong safety culture, minimizing risks, and ensuring the well-being of all personnel and visitors. You will be responsible for conducting thorough risk assessments, investigating incidents, providing essential safety training, and developing emergency response plans. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and systems in line with national legislation (e.g., OSH Act) and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
  • Perform thorough risk assessments for all operational activities, machinery, and processes, recommending and implementing effective control measures.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and developing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs for new hires and existing employees on various H&S topics, including emergency procedures, use of PPE, and specific machinery safety.
  • Maintain accurate records of all safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and emergency services as required.
  • Manage the procurement, distribution, and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Prepare and present regular H&S performance reports to management, highlighting key metrics, trends, and recommendations.
  • Lead safety committee meetings and promote employee involvement in H&S initiatives.
  • Develop and coordinate emergency response plans and evacuation drills.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) regulations and standards.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent international safety qualification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 or similar OHS management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence positive safety culture change.
