Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to lead and manage all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) initiatives within a prominent industrial estate in Waterford, Portmore. This professional role is critical in cultivating a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations, and safeguarding the well-being of all personnel, visitors, and contractors on site. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive HSE management systems, conducting thorough risk assessments, and delivering engaging safety training programs. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and management systems in line with national and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure effective control measures are in place.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as emergency procedures, hazard communication, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, and company-specific safety requirements.
- Prepare and present detailed HSE performance reports, including incident statistics, audit findings, and compliance status, to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Lead emergency response planning and drills, coordinating with relevant authorities and internal teams to ensure preparedness for any potential crises.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and environmental regulations.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent professional safety qualification.
- Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
