Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health & Safety Officer to oversee and enhance safety protocols within a dynamic industrial estate in Seville, St. Ann’s Bay. This pivotal role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring robust health and safety management systems to ensure compliance with local and international regulations, as well as company policies. The successful candidate will be a proactive leader, capable of identifying potential hazards, conducting thorough risk assessments, and designing effective mitigation strategies. You will be instrumental in fostering a strong safety culture amongst all tenants and operational staff, driving continuous improvement in all aspects of health and safety performance. This position demands a professional who is not only knowledgeable about industrial safety standards but also possesses exceptional communication, training, and crisis management skills. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems tailored to an industrial estate environment.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, unsafe practices, and non-compliance with H&S regulations.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments for all industrial activities, machinery, and processes, recommending and implementing control measures.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and developing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors on various H&S topics.
  • Ensure strict compliance with local Jamaican H&S legislation (e.g., Factories Act) and international best practices (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Prepare and present detailed H&S reports, statistics, and performance indicators to management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead emergency response planning, drills, and crisis management procedures for the industrial estate.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and emergency services as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in Health & Safety management, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough understanding of Jamaican H&S legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for risk assessment and incident investigation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and H&S management software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent recognized international safety qualification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification in First Aid and Fire Safety.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
