Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join a prominent industrial estate in Port Antonio, Portland. This professional role is pivotal in fostering and maintaining a robust safety culture, ensuring the well-being of all personnel, and safeguarding operational integrity across our diverse industrial landscape. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs tailored to the unique challenges of an industrial environment. You will champion compliance with national and international health and safety regulations, proactively identify potential hazards, and devise effective mitigation strategies. This is a hands-on position requiring a proactive individual who is passionate about creating and sustaining a zero-harm environment. You will work closely with management, employees, and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in health and safety performance. Beyond mere compliance, your role will involve inspiring a safety-first mindset, conducting thorough investigations into incidents, and delivering engaging training sessions that empower every team member to be a safety advocate. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective Health & Safety policies and procedures in accordance with local and international regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across the industrial estate, recommending and overseeing corrective actions.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses thoroughly, determine root causes, and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
- Deliver comprehensive H&S training programs to all employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Jamaican Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) legislation and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, inspections, training, and compliance activities, preparing reports for management as required.
- Advise management on best practices for health and safety, promoting a proactive and preventative approach to risk management.
- Oversee emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Collaborate with departmental managers to integrate safety considerations into all operational processes and projects.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety initiatives, driving continuous improvement in H&S performance.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in Occupational Health & Safety management, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican OHS regulations and standards.
- Expertise in conducting risk assessments, hazard analysis, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for training and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to develop and implement effective safety management systems.
- Proficiency in H&S software and standard office applications.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and drive a positive safety culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Internationally recognized H&S certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH Managing Safely).
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Membership in a professional H&S body.
