Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Health & Safety Officer (Professional) to champion occupational health and safety across a dynamic industrial estate in Half Way Tree, Kingston. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with local regulations (e.g., OHS Act of Jamaica) and international best practices (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections of industrial facilities, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, near misses, and occupational diseases to determine root causes and implement effective preventative measures.
  • Organize and deliver engaging health and safety training sessions for all employees, ensuring awareness and compliance with safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, and company standards.
  • Manage emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety, hazardous material spills, and natural disaster protocols.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on all H&S matters, promoting a strong safety culture throughout the industrial estate.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare comprehensive H&S reports, and analyze data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with external regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure all necessary documentation is presented accurately.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican Occupational Health & Safety regulations and relevant international standards.
  • Proven experience in conducting comprehensive risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and training delivery skills.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing H&S management systems.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across various departments.
  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with H&S management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and inspire a positive safety culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH Managing Safely, Certified Safety Professional – CSP).
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working in diverse industrial, manufacturing, or logistics environments.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Project management skills related to H&S initiatives.
