Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s operations within a bustling industrial estate located in Mountain View, Kingston. This is a pivotal role for a seasoned professional passionate about ensuring the highest standards of occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance in a fast-paced, multi-faceted industrial setting.

As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in fostering a proactive safety culture, identifying potential hazards, and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies across various industrial operations, including manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing. Your expertise will directly contribute to protecting our workforce, preventing incidents, and maintaining operational continuity. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in line with national regulations and international best practices. This includes conducting regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of industrial safety protocols, machinery safety, hazardous materials management, and emergency preparedness. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with local regulations and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Organize and deliver safety training programs and workshops for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and other relevant documentation.
  • Advise management on health and safety matters, including new legislation, best practices, and technological advancements.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with regulations.
  • Manage and coordinate emergency response plans and procedures, including fire safety and first aid.
  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the industrial estate through communication and engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external regulatory bodies and ensure all necessary permits and licenses are up-to-date.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control techniques.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience working with diverse teams in a multicultural environment.
