Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive health and safety programs in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Perform detailed risk assessments for various industrial operations and recommend effective control measures.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Deliver engaging and effective safety training sessions to employees at all levels.
- Prepare and submit statutory reports and maintain accurate records of all H&S activities.
- Advise management on health and safety best practices, new regulations, and necessary improvements.
- Manage and oversee emergency preparedness and response plans.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies and stakeholders on all health and safety matters.
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the industrial estate through communication and engagement.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA equivalents) and international standards.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control principles.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping and reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH, or equivalent.
- Experience working with diverse operational units within a large industrial complex.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
