Career.zycto is excited to facilitate the search for a highly skilled and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a prominent industrial estate in Norbrook, St. Andrew. This professional role is pivotal in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with all national and international health and safety regulations, and minimizing operational risks within a bustling industrial environment. The successful candidate will be a proactive leader, responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring robust health and safety programs tailored to the unique challenges of an industrial setting, including manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics operations. You will serve as the primary advisor on all H&S matters, working closely with management, employees, and external regulatory bodies to maintain exemplary safety standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive health and safety programs in line with national and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments for various industrial operations and recommend effective control measures.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Deliver engaging and effective safety training sessions to employees at all levels.
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports and maintain accurate records of all H&S activities.
  • Advise management on health and safety best practices, new regulations, and necessary improvements.
  • Manage and oversee emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies and stakeholders on all health and safety matters.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the industrial estate through communication and engagement.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA equivalents) and international standards.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control principles.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with diverse operational units within a large industrial complex.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
