Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems in line with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections of industrial estate facilities, machinery, and operational procedures.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on all health and safety matters, including new legislation and compliance requirements.
- Design and deliver engaging health and safety training programs for employees and contractors.
- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure adherence to site-specific safety protocols.
- Prepare and present detailed health and safety reports, including performance metrics, incident trends, and compliance status.
- Oversee emergency preparedness and response plans, conducting regular drills and ensuring availability of safety equipment.
- Champion a proactive safety culture, promoting awareness and accountability across the industrial estate.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure all necessary permits and licenses are in order.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, particularly in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., OSH Act) and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Strong understanding of industrial hazards, risk assessment methodologies, and control measures.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience managing safety across multiple tenant businesses within an industrial estate.
