Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our dynamic team, specifically assigned to a prominent industrial estate in Gordon Town, St. Andrew. This pivotal role demands a proactive and detail-oriented professional capable of developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with all local and international safety regulations, fostering a robust safety culture, and mitigating risks across diverse industrial operations within the estate. Your expertise will directly contribute to the well-being of hundreds of employees and the operational continuity of multiple businesses that operate within our managed premises. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems in line with local regulations and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections of industrial estate facilities, machinery, and operational procedures.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on all health and safety matters, including new legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Design and deliver engaging health and safety training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure adherence to site-specific safety protocols.
  • Prepare and present detailed health and safety reports, including performance metrics, incident trends, and compliance status.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and response plans, conducting regular drills and ensuring availability of safety equipment.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture, promoting awareness and accountability across the industrial estate.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure all necessary permits and licenses are in order.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, particularly in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., OSH Act) and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
  • Strong understanding of industrial hazards, risk assessment methodologies, and control measures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience managing safety across multiple tenant businesses within an industrial estate.
