Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust Health & Safety policies, procedures, and management systems in line with local regulations (e.g., OSHA Jamaica) and international best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all H&S standards.
- Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive H&S training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a strong safety culture.
- Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and certifications related to health and safety are current and adhered to.
- Manage hazardous materials, waste disposal, and environmental compliance within the industrial estate.
- Prepare detailed H&S reports, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and present findings to management.
- Oversee emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Advise management on new H&S legislation and best practices, recommending necessary adjustments to policies and operations.
- Collaborate with departmental managers to integrate safety into operational planning and execution.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in Health & Safety, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry).
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) regulations and standards.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective control measures.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage with all levels of an organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to safety management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) or quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
