Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust Health & Safety policies, procedures, and management systems in line with local regulations (e.g., OSHA Jamaica) and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all H&S standards.
  • Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive H&S training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and certifications related to health and safety are current and adhered to.
  • Manage hazardous materials, waste disposal, and environmental compliance within the industrial estate.
  • Prepare detailed H&S reports, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and present findings to management.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
  • Advise management on new H&S legislation and best practices, recommending necessary adjustments to policies and operations.
  • Collaborate with departmental managers to integrate safety into operational planning and execution.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in Health & Safety, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry).
  • Thorough knowledge of Jamaican Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) regulations and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective control measures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage with all levels of an organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to safety management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) or quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Experience in developing and implementing bespoke safety training programs.
  • Fluency in a second language relevant to the local workforce (e.g., Spanish).
