Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our team, specifically overseeing an industrial estate located in Mineral Heights, May Pen. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional dedicated to ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment for all personnel and visitors within our dynamic industrial setting. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in strict adherence to national regulations and international best practices.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of occupational health and safety principles, risk assessment methodologies, and emergency response planning. This position demands a proactive approach to identifying potential hazards, conducting thorough investigations into incidents, and providing expert guidance to management and staff on safety-related matters. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety management systems.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments for all operational activities, processes, and equipment within the industrial estate.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and deliver engaging safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure all safety documentation, including permits, records, and reports, are accurately maintained and up-to-date.
  • Advise management on health and safety compliance requirements, legislative changes, and best practices.
  • Lead emergency response planning and drills, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture across the industrial estate through awareness campaigns and proactive engagement.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written).
