Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our team, specifically overseeing an industrial estate in Hatfield, Mandeville. This professional role is crucial for ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment for all personnel, visitors, and contractors within the estate. The successful candidate will be a proactive champion of safety, responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing robust health and safety policies and procedures in line with national regulations and international best practices.
You will be tasked with conducting regular site inspections, identifying potential hazards, and implementing effective control measures to mitigate risks. A key aspect of this role involves leading incident investigations, analyzing root causes, and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Furthermore, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a strong safety culture through comprehensive training programs and continuous awareness campaigns, ensuring that all employees are equipped with the knowledge and tools to work safely. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems, policies, and procedures specific to industrial estate operations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and site inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, local Jamaican laws).
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, promoting a strong safety-conscious culture.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all environmental health and safety regulations, including waste management, chemical handling, and emergency preparedness.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, emergency services, and external consultants on health and safety matters.
- Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, training, inspections, and compliance activities.
- Advise management on current and emerging health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Lead emergency response drills and ensure that emergency procedures are well-understood and effectively executed.
- Promote continuous improvement in H&S performance across the industrial estate.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, Jamaican OHS Act).
- Excellent risk assessment and hazard identification abilities.
- Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering engaging safety training programs.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- Internationally recognized H&S certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, CSP, CRSP).
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Project management experience in H&S initiatives.
