Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our professional team, dedicated to overseeing safety protocols within a bustling industrial estate in Buff Bay, Portland. This pivotal role requires a proactive professional with a strong understanding of industrial safety regulations and best practices. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs that protect our workforce, contractors, and visitors, ensuring full compliance with national and international standards. Your expertise will contribute directly to minimizing workplace hazards, preventing accidents, and fostering a culture where safety is paramount. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and new hires on topics such as emergency preparedness, hazard communication, and proper use of PPE.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local health and safety legislation and industry-specific regulations.
  • Prepare and submit detailed H&S reports, including accident statistics, audit findings, and compliance status, to management.
  • Manage and maintain all necessary safety documentation, permits, and records.
  • Advise management on health and safety matters, promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the estate.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.
  • Promote employee engagement in safety initiatives and foster a continuous improvement mindset regarding H&S performance.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican H&S legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong analytical skills for conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective safety training.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to commute reliably to Buff Bay.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with safety management systems (SMS).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Fluency in English (both written and verbal).
  • Experience in emergency response planning and execution.
