We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s dynamic team within a bustling industrial estate located in Cherry Gardens, St. Andrew. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional dedicated to upholding the highest standards of occupational health and safety, ensuring a secure and compliant work environment for all personnel and visitors. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust safety programs and policies across various industrial operations, from manufacturing to logistics and warehousing. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored for an industrial estate environment.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits across all operational areas, identifying hazards and recommending effective control measures.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation, standards, and industry best practices.
- Lead and deliver engaging safety training sessions for all employees, contractors, and new hires, covering topics such as hazard communication, emergency procedures, and safe operating practices.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses thoroughly, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate records of all safety inspections, incidents, training activities, and compliance documentation.
- Advise management on safety-related issues, legislative changes, and opportunities for continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Oversee the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive health and safety reports to management and regulatory bodies as required.
- Promote a positive safety culture through active engagement, communication, and leadership at all levels of the organization.
- Coordinate emergency response plans and drills, ensuring preparedness for various scenarios.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial, manufacturing, or logistics environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent professional safety qualification.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering safety training programs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with ISO 45001 or other integrated management systems.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to the local workforce.
