Career.zycto is thrilled to be recruiting on behalf of a prominent industrial estate client located in Papine, Kingston, seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer. This is a critical professional role vital to ensuring the well-being of all personnel and the operational integrity within a dynamic industrial environment. As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs and policies that comply with national regulations and international best practices. You will be responsible for fostering a proactive safety culture, identifying potential hazards, assessing risks, and implementing effective control measures across various industrial operations, including manufacturing, logistics, and maintenance. Your expertise will guide our client in maintaining an exemplary safety record, minimizing incidents, and ensuring continuous improvement in occupational health and safety performance. This position requires a professional with a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and a genuine commitment to safeguarding lives and assets within a bustling industrial setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and review Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national legislation and international standards.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across the industrial estate to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide comprehensive health and safety training to employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a strong safety-conscious culture.
  • Ensure all plant, machinery, and equipment adhere to safety standards and are regularly inspected and maintained.
  • Manage and maintain safety documentation, records, and databases.
  • Advise management on health and safety matters, including new legislation, best practices, and technological advancements.
  • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Develop and coordinate emergency response plans and evacuation procedures.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure all necessary certifications and permits are up-to-date.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and standards in Jamaica.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment, hazard identification, and control measures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct effective safety training sessions.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Internationally recognized H&S qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, OSHA certifications).
  • Experience with ISO 45001 or other relevant management systems.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in environmental management practices.
