Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our team, specifically focused on overseeing an active industrial estate in Pembroke Hall, St. Andrew. This pivotal professional role demands a proactive individual with an unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs tailored to the unique challenges of an industrial setting, including machinery operation, hazardous materials handling, and construction activities within the estate. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures aligned with local and international standards for industrial operations.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identifications, and safety audits across the industrial estate, recommending and overseeing corrective actions.
  • Lead and deliver engaging safety training programs for employees, contractors, and site visitors on topics such as emergency response, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and hazardous waste management.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and implementing preventative measures.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., OSHA principles adapted to local context) and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date health and safety records, including incident logs, training matrices, and inspection reports.
  • Advise management on health and safety best practices, new regulations, and necessary investments to enhance safety performance.
  • Manage and coordinate emergency response plans and drills, including fire safety, medical emergencies, and natural disaster preparedness.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE) across the industrial estate.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for risk assessment and incident investigation.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of training and influencing diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Ability to conduct thorough safety audits and inspections.
  • Meticulous record-keeping and report writing abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), or IOSH.
  • Experience with safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001).
  • Knowledge of specific industrial processes relevant to the industrial estate (e.g., logistics, light manufacturing, warehousing).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
