Job Description

This pivotal role calls for a seasoned Health & Safety Officer to champion an unwavering commitment to safety within a bustling industrial estate environment situated in the heart of University District, St. Andrew. We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and highly experienced professional to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety programs that comply with local regulations and international best practices. You will be instrumental in cultivating a robust safety culture, ensuring all operations adhere to the highest standards, and mitigating risks effectively across diverse industrial operations.

The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of health and safety, from conducting regular site inspections and risk assessments to developing emergency response plans and delivering essential safety training. This position demands a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with all levels of staff, from senior management to on-the-ground operatives. You will investigate incidents, analyse trends, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence, continuously striving for an incident-free workplace. The industrial estate environment presents unique challenges, requiring expertise in areas such as machinery safety, chemical handling, fire prevention, electrical safety, confined space entry, and construction safety protocols. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety management systems.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on all health and safety matters.
  • Develop and deliver engaging safety training programs for all levels of staff.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed safety documentation, reports, and records.
  • Ensure compliance with local OHS legislation (e.g., OSHA Jamaica) and international best practices.
  • Manage hazardous waste disposal and chemical safety protocols.

  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in an industrial health and safety role.
  • In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards (local and international).
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to conduct effective safety training and toolbox talks.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.

Preferred Qualifications
