Are you an experienced Health & Safety Officer with a passion for cultivating secure and compliant industrial environments? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive professional to join a prominent industrial estate in Portmore, St. Catherine. This pivotal role involves overseeing and enhancing the occupational health and safety management system across various industrial operations within the estate. You will be instrumental in identifying potential hazards, implementing preventative measures, ensuring strict adherence to national and international safety regulations, and fostering a robust safety culture among tenants and staff. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with Jamaican legislation and international best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement.
- Lead comprehensive risk assessments for all industrial activities, equipment, and processes, recommending and overseeing the implementation of effective control measures.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and developing corrective and preventative action plans.
- Organize and deliver safety training sessions and workshops for estate personnel and tenant representatives, promoting safety awareness and competency.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance documentation.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., Ministry of Labour and Social Security) on all H&S matters, ensuring statutory compliance and reporting.
- Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures, conducting regular drills.
- Advise management on H&S performance, trends, and legal obligations, providing expert guidance and recommendations.
- Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, engagement, and incentivization programs.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial, manufacturing, or estate management environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA principles).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control techniques.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to conduct effective safety training and awareness programs.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
