Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our team, specifically overseeing operations within our bustling industrial estate in Gregory Park, Portmore. This is a pivotal professional role designed for an individual who is passionate about creating and maintaining a safe and compliant working environment across multiple industrial facets. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring occupational health and safety programs and policies that align with national regulations and international best practices.
Your primary objective will be to safeguard our employees, contractors, and visitors by mitigating risks, ensuring compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture. You will conduct regular site inspections, identify potential hazards, and recommend corrective actions. This role demands a proactive approach to safety management, including conducting thorough risk assessments for various operational activities, machinery, and processes. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain occupational health and safety policies and procedures in line with national regulations and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments for various industrial operations, machinery, and work processes, proposing effective control measures.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and conduct regular safety training sessions, workshops, and induction programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure all safety documentation, including permits-to-work, safety data sheets (SDS), and risk assessments, are up-to-date and accessible.
- Monitor and report on health and safety performance indicators, preparing detailed reports for management.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, including new legislation, best practices, and technological advancements.
- Lead emergency response planning, drills, and crisis management activities for the industrial estate.
- Collaborate with department managers to integrate safety protocols into daily operational workflows.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Certified in relevant health and safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate, OSHA 30-Hour, IOSH Managing Safely).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
Preferred Qualifications
