This role calls for a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to oversee and enhance safety protocols across our vibrant industrial estate in Clark’s Town, Trelawny. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive health and safety programs and policies in line with local regulations and international best practices (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards, non-compliance, and areas for improvement.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and ensure corrective and preventative actions are promptly implemented and tracked.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on all matters related to occupational health and safety.
- Organize and deliver engaging safety training sessions and awareness programs for all staff levels.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on safety performance, incidents, audits, and compliance status to management.
- Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and certifications related to health and safety are current and adhered to.
- Manage emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety documentation, including risk assessments, method statements, and safety data sheets.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies, auditors, and contractors to ensure compliance and effective safety management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Demonstrable expertise in hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures.
- Strong understanding of safety management systems (e.g., OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct effective safety training and awareness programs.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
- Computer literacy, including experience with safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Recognized professional safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP).
