Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our team, specifically focused on a dynamic industrial estate environment in Red Hills, Kingston. This professional role is critical in ensuring the continuous adherence to national and international occupational health and safety standards across multiple industrial operations within the estate. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs designed to mitigate risks, prevent incidents, and foster a proactive safety culture among all stakeholders, including tenants, contractors, and visitors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including those set by the Occupational Safety and Health Department (OSHD) of Jamaica. You will play a key role in the investigation of incidents and accidents, preparing detailed reports, and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Furthermore, you will be tasked with organizing and delivering engaging safety training sessions for staff at all levels, covering topics such as emergency preparedness, safe machinery operation, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment usage. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with various operational teams. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive health and safety management systems compliant with local and international standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and site inspections within the industrial estate to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending preventative measures.
  • Organize and deliver safety training programs and workshops for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure all machinery, equipment, and working practices conform to safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Advise management on health and safety best practices and regulatory changes affecting industrial operations.
  • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) across the estate.
  • Lead emergency response planning, drills, and coordination efforts.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture through continuous communication and engagement with all stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, including Jamaican OSHD requirements.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Internationally recognized H&S certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, OSHA certifications).
  • Experience working with multiple tenants/companies within an industrial park setting.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
