Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Monitor and accurately record vital signs, intake/output, and other observations, reporting any significant changes in client condition promptly.
  • Assist clients with mobility, transfers (e.g., bed to chair), and ambulation, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Provide medication reminders as per care plan and client needs.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, including tidying living areas and assisting with laundry, to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Assist with meal preparation and feeding, ensuring dietary requirements are met and promoting adequate nutrition.
  • Offer companionship, engage clients in meaningful activities, and provide emotional support to enhance their well-being.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for clients, adhering to all health and safety protocols.
  • Document care provided and observations accurately and in a timely manner according to established procedures.

Required Skills

  • Completion of a recognized Healthcare Aide (HCA) or Personal Support Worker (PSW) program from an accredited institution.
  • Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for caring for others.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a valued member of a care team.
  • Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation and record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of recent experience in a long-term care, home care, or acute care setting.
  • Knowledge and experience in dementia care and palliative care.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a significant asset in New Brunswick.
  • Valid New Brunswick driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for client visits, if applicable.
