Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities (ADLs) such as personal hygiene, dressing, mobility, and feeding, always maintaining dignity and respect.
- Monitor and accurately record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, reporting any significant changes to the nursing staff.
- Help maintain a clean, tidy, and safe environment for patients, including changing bed linens and ensuring general ward cleanliness.
- Assist nurses and doctors with medical procedures, examinations, and treatments as directed and within the scope of practice.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, listening to their concerns and communicating effectively with them and their families.
- Ensure adequate stock of medical supplies and equipment in patient rooms and treatment areas, reporting needs for replenishment.
- Accurately document observations, care provided, and patient feedback in patient records, adhering to hospital protocols.
- Respond promptly to patient call bells and requests for assistance, ensuring their needs are met efficiently.
- Support patient transportation within the hospital for tests, therapies, or discharge.
- Adhere strictly to infection control policies and procedures to prevent the spread of infections.
Required Skills
- Certificate or Diploma in Community Health, Nursing Aid, or a related healthcare field from a recognized institution.
- At least 1 year of practical experience as a Healthcare Assistant or similar role, preferably in a hospital setting.
- Valid First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a genuine desire to care for patients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Swahili.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform duties that require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certifications in specialized care areas (e.g., wound care, geriatrics).
- Experience working in a mission-based or community-focused healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of local Meru dialects.
