Key Responsibilities
- Assist nurses and doctors with patient examinations, treatments, and minor procedures.
- Prepare and maintain clinical areas, ensuring cleanliness, sterility, and adequate supplies for patient care.
- Monitor patient vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and record observations accurately.
- Help patients with personal care, mobility, feeding, and comfort needs while respecting their dignity and privacy.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and colleagues, providing support and relaying information as needed.
- Manage and organize patient records, ensuring confidentiality and proper documentation.
- Assist with the collection of samples (e.g., urine, blood) under the direct supervision of a qualified nurse or doctor.
- Provide basic first aid and emergency support as required, under supervision.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment, reporting deficiencies as necessary.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and clinic protocols.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in patient handling and basic care techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French (Creole an advantage).
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Reliable, responsible, and able to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and administrative tasks.
- Ability to handle challenging situations calmly and professionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Healthcare Assistance, Nursing Aid, or a related medical field.
- Previous experience working in a clinic, hospital, or care home setting in Mauritius.
- Knowledge of local health regulations and medical terminology.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
