Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, and feeding, while promoting independence.
- Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and report any significant changes to senior nursing staff.
- Support patients with mobility, transfers, and positioning, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Engage patients in therapeutic and recreational activities to promote well-being and recovery.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe environment for patients, adhering to infection control policies.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, fostering a compassionate and respectful atmosphere.
- Accurately document patient care observations, interventions, and outcomes in accordance with established procedures.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Assist with basic medical procedures under the direct supervision of qualified healthcare professionals.
- Adhere strictly to all healthcare policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GCE/NECO equivalent
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a healthcare support role (e.g., caregiver, health assistant)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach to patient care
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Basic knowledge of hygiene and infection control practices
- Physical stamina to assist with patient mobility and stand for extended periods
- Reliability and strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Further education or vocational training in healthcare assistance or related field
- Experience working in a hospital, clinic, or elderly care setting
- Knowledge of local language (e.g., Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo) in addition to English
