Job Description

We are actively seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and experienced Heating and Cooling HVAC Technician to bolster our dedicated Facilities Management team at Tanganda Tea Company Limited. Based in the vibrant operational heart of our Chipinge facilities, this pivotal role will be instrumental in ensuring the continuous and efficient functioning of our comprehensive heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across a diverse array of company properties. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on all HVAC systems, including inspecting, cleaning, and calibrating equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues in various HVAC units, such as boilers, chillers, air handlers, refrigeration systems, and cooling towers.
  • Execute precise repairs and systematic replacements of faulty components, including compressors, motors, fans, thermostats, sensors, and intricate circuit boards.
  • Install new HVAC systems and related components from inception to commissioning, ensuring strict compliance with local codes, manufacturer specifications, and stringent safety standards.
  • Monitor, analyze, and adjust building automation systems (BAS) and other control systems to meticulously optimize HVAC performance, improve indoor air quality, and enhance energy efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance, repair, and installation activities, meticulously documenting parts used, labor hours, and future maintenance recommendations.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to emergency service calls, providing effective solutions under pressure, and be available for occasional after-hours support as required by operational needs.
  • Ensure all work is performed in strict adherence to company safety policies, industry regulations, and environmental standards, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior technicians or apprentices, fostering skill development and knowledge transfer.
  • Collaborate effectively with other maintenance staff, facilities managers, and external contractors to coordinate large-scale repairs, new installations, and project timelines.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as an HVAC Technician, demonstrating comprehensive expertise in both heating, ventilation, and cooling systems.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of HVAC systems, including advanced refrigeration cycles, complex electrical circuits, and modern control systems.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools, as well as specialized diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, manifold gauges, and thermal imagers.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record, with the ability to travel between various company sites efficiently.
  • Physical stamina, dexterity, and the ability to perform strenuous tasks, lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work comfortably in various weather conditions and confined spaces.
  • Unwavering commitment to safety protocols and procedures, with a proactive approach to risk assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant trade school certification or an accredited diploma in HVAC/Refrigeration technology.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification (or an equivalent local Zimbabwean certification).
  • Extensive experience with industrial-scale HVAC systems or commercial building management systems (BMS/BAS).
  • Familiarity with energy management principles and sustainable HVAC practices, including variable frequency drives (VFDs) and high-efficiency units.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in the HVAC field.
