Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic tests to identify mechanical and electrical faults in heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Execute preventative maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, and fluid changes, to maximize equipment lifespan.
- Repair, overhaul, and rebuild engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other major components.
- Utilize specialized tools, diagnostic software, and technical manuals to ensure accurate and efficient repairs.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately and comprehensively.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients regarding repair status and technical issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with industry advancements.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Plant Fitter.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Expertise with a wide range of hand and power tools specific to heavy machinery repair.
- Valid UK driving license (HGV license desirable but not essential).
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, Plant Maintenance, or a related field.
- Experience with specific diagnostic software for brands like Caterpillar, Volvo, JCB, or similar.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- Forklift or other heavy equipment operating certification.
- First Aid certification.
