We are looking for an individual with a strong diagnostic acumen and a proven track record in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of various heavy-duty vehicles and industrial equipment. This role is crucial to our operations, ensuring our fleet runs safely, efficiently, and reliably.

As a Heavy Duty Mechanic with us, you will be responsible for a wide array of tasks, from routine preventative maintenance to complex troubleshooting and major component rebuilds. You’ll work on everything from excavators, bulldozers, and wheel loaders to heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and specialized plant machinery. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic tests to identify mechanical and electrical faults in heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Execute preventative maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, and fluid changes, to maximize equipment lifespan.
  • Repair, overhaul, and rebuild engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other major components.
  • Utilize specialized tools, diagnostic software, and technical manuals to ensure accurate and efficient repairs.
  • Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately and comprehensively.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients regarding repair status and technical issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with industry advancements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Plant Fitter.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Expertise with a wide range of hand and power tools specific to heavy machinery repair.
  • Valid UK driving license (HGV license desirable but not essential).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to safety procedures and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, Plant Maintenance, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific diagnostic software for brands like Caterpillar, Volvo, JCB, or similar.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Forklift or other heavy equipment operating certification.
  • First Aid certification.
