Job Description
Dendi Farm is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join our dynamic team in Mvurwi. This is a critical role that directly impacts our daily agricultural operations, infrastructure maintenance, and land preparation activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery essential for tasks such as land clearing, tilling, planting, harvesting, irrigation ditching, road maintenance, and general farm infrastructure development. You will be expected to perform these duties with precision, efficiency, and an unwavering commitment to safety protocols. This role demands a proactive individual with a strong understanding of machinery operation, basic maintenance, and the ability to work effectively as part of a larger agricultural team. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our farm operations run smoothly, contributing directly to the productivity and success of Dendi Farm. Beyond just operating machines, you will be expected to conduct daily inspections, perform minor adjustments and repairs, and maintain accurate records of equipment usage and fuel consumption. Key Responsibilities
- Operate various types of heavy equipment, including but not limited to tractors (with various implements like plows, cultivators, planters, sprayers), bulldozers, excavators, graders, front-end loaders, and harvesters, safely and efficiently.
- Perform pre-operational checks, daily inspections, and routine preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment.
- Identify and report any mechanical issues, defects, or malfunctions to the supervisor promptly and accurately.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, operating procedures, and site regulations to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist with manual labor tasks and general farm duties when heavy equipment operation is not required, supporting overall team objectives.
- Maintain accurate and detailed logs of equipment usage hours, maintenance performed, and fuel consumption.
- Ensure the proper care, cleanliness, and security of all machinery and tools under your charge.
- Understand and follow work orders, instructions, and site plans for various tasks such as land preparation, construction, or maintenance.
- Work collaboratively with other farm staff and supervisors to achieve production targets and project deadlines.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator, preferably in an agricultural or construction setting.
- Valid Zimbabwean Class 2 driver's license or equivalent, with an excellent driving record.
- Demonstrated proficiency in operating multiple types of heavy equipment (e.g., tractors, excavators, loaders, graders).
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment mechanics, maintenance, and safety procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret operating manuals, safety warnings, and basic site plans or maps.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Excellent spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to punctuality, reliability, and strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certification in heavy equipment operation from a recognized institution.
- Basic knowledge of welding and fabrication for minor equipment repairs.
- Experience with GPS-guided agricultural machinery and precision farming techniques.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Understanding of agricultural processes and seasonal demands.
