Job Description

Orbit Group is seeking a dedicated and proactive Home-Based Community Engagement Officer to join our dynamic team, focusing specifically on the Canley area of Coventry. This vital role will involve building strong, positive relationships with our residents, local community groups, and partners, all from the comfort and flexibility of your home office, while actively engaging with the community on the ground. You will be instrumental in understanding the unique needs and aspirations of the Canley community, identifying opportunities for collaborative projects, and linking residents to crucial support services and resources.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive community engagement plans tailored specifically to the needs and demographics of the Canley area, identifying key stakeholders and community priorities.
- Act as the primary point of contact for residents and community groups, fostering strong relationships built on trust, empathy, and mutual respect.
- Organise and facilitate a variety of community meetings, workshops, and events, both virtually and in-person, to gather essential feedback, promote resident involvement, and celebrate local achievements.
- Identify, secure, and nurture strategic partnerships with local charities, public services, voluntary organisations, and businesses to enhance community support networks and broaden resource access.
- Proactively signpost residents to appropriate internal and external services, including welfare advice, employment support, digital inclusion programmes, and health and wellbeing initiatives.
- Monitor and rigorously evaluate the impact and effectiveness of all engagement activities, preparing regular, insightful reports for internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Manage a dedicated budget for community projects, ensuring efficient, transparent, and effective use of financial resources to maximise community benefit.
- Champion diversity and inclusion in all engagement efforts, ensuring that all voices within the community, especially those from underrepresented groups, are heard, respected, and valued.
- Stay informed about local issues, policy changes, and best practices in community development to continuously evolve and improve engagement strategies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in community development, engagement, or a similar outreach role, demonstrating tangible impact.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the innate ability to build rapport and trust with diverse groups of people.
- Strong organisational and project management abilities, capable of working independently, managing multiple priorities, and thriving in a home-based environment.
- Proficiency in using digital tools for communication (e.g., video conferencing, social media) and data management (e.g., CRM systems).
- A deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities prevalent within diverse, urban communities.
- Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends, to support community events and resident needs.
- Full UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle for regular travel within the local community.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree or relevant professional qualification in Community Development, Social Work, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Direct experience working within the housing sector or for a non-profit organisation focused on social welfare.
- In-depth knowledge of the Canley, Coventry area, its local services, demographics, and community landscape.
- Demonstrated experience in budget management and grant application processes for community-based projects.
