Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls for a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy and adherence to strict deadlines.
- Calculate and input statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, student loan deductions, and attachments of earnings.
- Handle new starter and leaver processes, including P45s, P60s, and P11Ds, ensuring all documentation is correct and timely.
- Reconcile payroll data, generate comprehensive reports for clients, and submit PAYE information accurately to HMRC.
- Respond to payroll-related queries from clients and their employees in a professional, clear, and timely manner, providing expert guidance.
- Assist with pension auto-enrolment duties and submissions to various pension providers.
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records, ensuring full compliance with data protection regulations (GDPR).
- Stay updated on relevant payroll legislation and changes to tax and national insurance rates, implementing changes as required.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams, including tax and accounting departments, to provide integrated client solutions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a payroll processing role, preferably within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau.
- Solid understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, NI, statutory payments, and pension auto-enrolment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., Star, Xero Payroll, Sage Payroll) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for client and internal interactions.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities to handle multiple client payrolls and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
- A proactive and problem-solving approach to work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g., CIPP Foundation Degree or Certificate in Payroll Administration).
- Experience with a variety of payroll software systems.
- Prior experience working in a remote or home-based capacity.
- Understanding of Furlough scheme calculations and reporting (if applicable to historic periods or future schemes).
