Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planting, watering, fertilizing, weeding, and pruning of various plants, shrubs, and trees.
  • Prepare garden beds and planters, including soil amendment and mulching.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools and power equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and cultivators safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor plant health, identify common pests and diseases, and apply appropriate treatments under supervision.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work sites, including debris removal.
  • Assist with irrigation system setup, monitoring, and minor repairs.
  • Support the installation of new landscape features and garden designs.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and environmental best practices.
  • Provide basic customer service and maintain professional conduct on client properties.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated passion for horticulture, gardening, or landscaping.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Basic understanding of plant care and maintenance techniques.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver's license (Class 5 equivalent in NB) and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (6-12 months) in landscaping, gardening, nursery, or a related field.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a horticulture, landscape design, or related program.
  • Familiarity with common Saint John plant species and local growing conditions.
  • Experience operating small engine equipment.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
