Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of food items, including washing, peeling, and chopping ingredients as instructed by the kitchen supervisor or cooks.
  • Portion and plate meals accurately according to dietary requirements and patient orders, ensuring presentation standards are met.
  • Operate and maintain dishwashing equipment, ensuring all cutlery, crockery, and cooking utensils are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas, including work surfaces, floors, storage areas, and equipment, adhering strictly to hygiene standards.
  • Assist with the receiving, storing, and rotation of food supplies, ensuring proper stock management and minimizing waste.
  • Transport food carts to and from patient wards at designated meal times, ensuring timely delivery and collection.
  • Monitor and record refrigerator and freezer temperatures as required, reporting any deviations immediately.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations, hospital policies, and health codes at all times.
  • Support the culinary team with various tasks to ensure efficient meal service delivery.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or stock discrepancies to the supervisor promptly.

Required Skills

  • Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, especially in portioning and cleaning.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely and efficiently.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to understand recipes, schedules, and inventory counts.
