Career.zycto is actively seeking a diligent and energetic Hotel Kitchen Steward for an immediate full-time position in a reputable hotel located in the vibrant Wuse 2 area of Abuja. As a Kitchen Steward, you are the backbone of our culinary operations, ensuring that all kitchenware, equipment, and work areas are spotless and ready for use. This role involves more than just washing dishes; it’s about meticulous attention to detail, efficient management of resources, and proactive support to the entire kitchen brigade.

You will be responsible for the proper handling and storage of various kitchen tools, from delicate glassware to heavy-duty pots and pans. You will operate dishwashing machines, ensuring they are well-maintained and used effectively, and you will also manage waste disposal, maintaining a clean and orderly waste area. This position requires physical stamina, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a keen eye for detail to prevent cross-contamination and maintain a safe working space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain dishwashing equipment (manual and automated) ensuring all dishes, cutlery, and kitchenware are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas, including floors, walls, work surfaces, and storage rooms.
  • Assist with the proper storage of clean equipment, dishes, and kitchen supplies.
  • Manage waste disposal, including segregating waste and maintaining clean bins and waste areas.
  • Clean and sanitize pots, pans, and other cooking utensils to meet health and safety standards.
  • Support the culinary team by assisting with basic food preparation tasks when required.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and company policies.
  • Perform deep cleaning tasks for kitchen equipment and areas as scheduled.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of cleaning chemicals and materials are available and stored safely.

Required Skills

  • Physical stamina and strength to lift and move heavy items (up to 25kg) and stand for extended periods.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong team player with good communication skills.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen sanitation and safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (6+ months) as a kitchen steward or in a similar support role within a hotel or restaurant setting.
  • Familiarity with operating industrial dishwashers and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
