Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas in accordance with health and safety standards.
- Operate commercial dishwashing machines efficiently and safely, ensuring proper loading, unloading, and maintenance.
- Stock and organize supplies in storerooms, refrigerators, and freezers, following FIFO procedures.
- Assist kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables, when required.
- Empty trash receptacles and transport waste to designated recycling and disposal areas.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including HACCP guidelines and local food safety protocols.
- Report any maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards promptly to management.
- Collaborate effectively with chefs, cooks, and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Ensure proper care, storage, and inventory of all kitchen tools, wares, and cleaning supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Chef or Kitchen Manager to support overall kitchen functionality.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 6 months) as a Steward or similar role in a high-volume kitchen or hospitality setting.
- Solid knowledge of sanitation and hygiene practices, including an understanding of HACCP principles.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate commercial dishwashing equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
- Excellent time management and ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina and strength to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs/23 kg) and stand for extended periods.
- Basic English communication skills (verbal and written).
- Legally eligible to work in Canada or willingness to undergo immigration processes for overseas candidates.
Preferred Qualifications
- FoodSafe Level 1 certification or equivalent provincial food safety certification.
- Previous experience in a hotel or large-scale restaurant setting.
- Understanding of inventory management principles for kitchen supplies and equipment.
- Multilingual abilities are considered an asset.
