Job Description

Are you a seasoned HR professional with a passion for fostering positive workplace relationships and ensuring a fair, compliant, and engaging employee experience? National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited is seeking an experienced HR Officer specializing in Employee Relations to join our dynamic Corporate HR team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in maintaining a harmonious and productive work environment by acting as a trusted advisor, mediator, and expert on all matters related to employee relations. You will be responsible for interpreting and applying HR policies, labor laws, and collective bargaining agreements, ensuring consistency and fairness across the organization. This position requires a proactive individual with strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills who can navigate complex employee issues with empathy, discretion, and a commitment to justice. You will contribute to developing and implementing HR strategies that promote employee engagement, mitigate risks, and uphold NCB’s core values of integrity, accountability, and excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee grievances, disputes, and disciplinary matters, conducting thorough and impartial investigations and recommending appropriate resolutions.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to employees and management on HR policies, procedures, and relevant Jamaican labour laws and regulations (e.g., Employment (Termination and Redundancy) Act, Labour Relations and Industrial Disputes Act).
  • Manage the disciplinary process from inception to conclusion, including drafting letters, facilitating hearings, ensuring due process is followed, and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Mediate conflicts between employees and managers, fostering constructive dialogue and working towards mutually agreeable and sustainable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal and external legal counsel on complex employee relations cases, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and mitigating potential organizational risks.
  • Develop and deliver engaging training sessions for managers and employees on employee relations topics, HR policies, conflict resolution, and best practices.
  • Assist in the interpretation, application, and negotiation of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) with unionized employees, ensuring effective industrial relations.
  • Contribute to the continuous development and review of HR policies and procedures to ensure they are current, legally compliant, and strategically supportive of NCB’s objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze employee relations trends, providing data-driven insights and recommendations for proactive interventions, process improvements, and strategic HR planning.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date employee relations records and documentation in compliance with organizational and legal requirements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in employee relations, industrial relations, or human resources within a corporate setting, preferably in a large organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican labour laws, industrial relations practices, and contemporary HR best practices.
  • Exceptional conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation skills with a track record of successful outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with a keen eye for detail and the ability to conduct thorough investigations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, concise, and legally sound reports and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and act with discretion in sensitive situations.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with employees and management at all levels of the organization, fostering an environment of open communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certification in Human Resources (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent professional HR designation).
  • Experience working in the financial services sector or other heavily regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining processes and managing relationships in unionized environments.
  • Postgraduate degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, or a related field.
