Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated HVAC Technician with expertise in both installation and repair to join our dynamic team in Nakuru. As an integral part of our construction and building services division, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and proper installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across a diverse range of projects, from large commercial buildings to residential developments. This role demands a professional who is not only technically proficient but also possesses excellent problem-solving abilities, a keen eye for detail, and a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. You will be instrumental in maintaining indoor air quality, comfort, and energy efficiency for our clients, contributing directly to the structural integrity and livability of our constructions. Key Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair residential and commercial HVAC systems, including split systems, packaged units, VRF systems, and chillers.
  • Perform routine maintenance on HVAC equipment to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and longevity.
  • Conduct comprehensive system start-ups, testing, and commissioning after installation or major repairs.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate installation and repair procedures.
  • Calibrate thermostats and ensure proper system controls are functioning.
  • Handle refrigerants safely, including recovery, recycling, and recharging in compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all service, repair, and installation activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians and apprentices when required.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols, building codes, and company policies at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, explaining technical issues and solutions clearly and professionally.
  • Manage and organize inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated with industry advancements.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as an HVAC Technician in installation and repair.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical faults in HVAC systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC principles, theories, and components.
  • Familiarity with various types of refrigerants and their safe handling practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid artisan certificate or diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NITA Grade I or II certification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency standards and practices.
  • Prior experience working on large-scale commercial or industrial HVAC projects.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
