As an Instrument Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide array of process control instrumentation. This includes working with flow, pressure, temperature, level, analytical instruments, control valves, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems. You will play a crucial part in preventative maintenance programs, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum operational uptime. We value a proactive approach to identifying potential issues and implementing solutions before they impact production. You will also be expected to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs, and to document all work performed accurately and comprehensively. Key Responsibilities
- Install, calibrate, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair process control instrumentation, including transmitters, sensors, control valves, and actuators.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on instrumentation to ensure reliability and accuracy.
- Conduct routine calibration checks and maintain detailed calibration records in compliance with industry standards.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, loop diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Diagnose complex control system issues using testing equipment and logical problem-solving techniques.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to support operational goals and system improvements.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines.
- Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and calibration data accurately in the maintenance management system.
- Participate in root cause analysis for instrument failures and implement corrective actions.
- Provide technical support and training to less experienced technicians or operational staff as needed.
Required Skills
- Completed vocational training (e.g., as an industrial electrician, electronics technician for automation technology, or comparable qualification)
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as an Instrument Technician in an industrial environment.
- Profound knowledge of process instrumentation principles (flow, pressure, temperature, level, pH, conductivity).
- Experience with calibration equipment and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in German (B2 level or higher) and good English communication skills.
- High level of safety awareness and commitment to safe working practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PLC/DCS systems and fieldbus technologies (e.g., Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, HART).
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Certification in specific instrumentation technologies.
- Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., chemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage).
