Job Description
Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Intensivist to join one of our esteemed partner healthcare facilities in the Binbrook area of Hamilton. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to provide leadership and expertise in a dynamic critical care setting, contributing significantly to patient outcomes and the advancement of medical practice. As an Intensivist, you will be at the forefront of managing critically ill patients, utilizing your specialized knowledge to diagnose, treat, and stabilize complex medical conditions across various specialties including surgical, medical, trauma, and neurological critical care. Your daily responsibilities will encompass comprehensive patient management, from initial assessment and resuscitation to ongoing monitoring and intervention, ensuring the highest standards of care are consistently met.
This role demands a physician with exceptional clinical acumen, the ability to make rapid, informed decisions under pressure, and a profound commitment to evidence-based medicine. You will be instrumental in leading multidisciplinary teams, collaborating closely with nurses, residents, fellows, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other specialists to develop and implement individualized care plans. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive critical care services for adult patients with life-threatening illnesses or injuries.
- Manage complex medical conditions, including multi-system organ failure, sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and severe trauma.
- Lead and participate in rapid response teams and codes, ensuring timely and effective resuscitation efforts.
- Perform advanced critical care procedures, such as endotracheal intubation, central venous catheter insertion, arterial line placement, thoracentesis, and paracentesis.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, residents, fellows, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and consulting specialists.
- Develop and implement individualized patient care plans based on current evidence-based guidelines and best practices.
- Provide expert consultation to other services regarding the management of critically ill patients.
- Educate residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals on critical care principles and practices.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and clinical research as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records and documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills
- Medical Degree (MD) from an accredited institution.
- Board Certification in Critical Care Medicine (e.g., Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification or equivalent).
- Current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Proficiency in critical care procedures and advanced life support techniques.
- Excellent diagnostic and clinical decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and ethical medical practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship training in a related subspecialty (e.g., Pulmonary, Nephrology, Cardiology).
- Experience in a tertiary care academic medical center.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in medical education or clinical research.
- Proficiency with various electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Leadership experience within a critical care unit or department.
