Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a skilled and empathetic Interpreter for Foreigners to join our dedicated team in Hespeler, Cambridge. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation between English and other languages for foreign-born individuals in various professional settings (e.g., medical appointments, legal consultations, immigration interviews, social service meetings).
  • Facilitate effective communication by conveying all spoken information, including nuances and cultural context, while maintaining impartiality and confidentiality.
  • Adhere to professional ethics and standards for interpreters, including maintaining strict client confidentiality and avoiding personal opinions or advice.
  • Assist individuals in understanding complex documents and forms by verbally translating key information.
  • Manage scheduling and coordination of interpretation services as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of interpretation sessions, including dates, times, languages, and nature of service provided.
  • Collaborate effectively with service providers, clients, and colleagues to ensure seamless support.
  • Stay updated on current events, terminology, and cultural sensitivities relevant to the communities served.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional fluency in English and at least two other high-demand languages relevant to the Hespeler/Cambridge community (e.g., Arabic, Punjabi, Spanish, Mandarin, etc.)
  • Proven experience in professional interpretation, preferably in community, medical, or legal settings.
  • Strong understanding of cultural differences and ability to navigate diverse cultural contexts.
  • Excellent active listening, memory retention, and note-taking skills.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and adherence to ethical standards.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification from a recognized interpreting body (e.g., CILISAT, provincially recognized certification).
  • Post-secondary education in linguistics, translation, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with immigration and settlement processes in Canada.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations or newcomers.
