Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair various irrigation systems, including drip, sprinkler, and pivot systems, ensuring optimal functionality.
  • Perform routine inspections of irrigation equipment, lines, emitters, and controllers to identify and address potential issues proactively.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic problems within irrigation systems, performing necessary repairs and replacements.
  • Monitor water usage and system efficiency, making adjustments as needed to optimize water conservation and distribution.
  • Operate and program automated irrigation controllers and other related farm management software.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, water usage, and equipment inventory.
  • Collaborate with farm management and agronomy teams to ensure irrigation schedules align with crop needs and growth cycles.
  • Adhere strictly to all farm safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Assist in the planning and layout of new irrigation system installations or upgrades.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of proven experience as an Irrigation Technician in a farm or agricultural setting.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic principles, water pressure, and flow dynamics.
  • Proficiency in installing, maintaining, and repairing various types of irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, pivot).
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical components, valves, pumps, and automated controllers.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting techniques.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate farm vehicles for work-related tasks.
  • Physical stamina to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform manual labor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Agriculture, Horticulture, Irrigation Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with smart irrigation technologies and sensor-based systems.
  • Knowledge of specific crop water requirements relevant to the Naivasha region.
