As a Kindergarten Assistant, you will be an active participant in the daily rhythm of our classroom, from engaging in creative play and storytelling to assisting with educational activities that spark curiosity. You will play a crucial part in implementing our child-centered curriculum, helping to prepare materials, facilitate group activities, and provide one-on-one attention to children as needed. This position demands a keen eye for detail when it comes to supervising children during various activities, including playtime, meals, and nap times, always prioritizing their safety and well-being. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing daily educational activities and lessons.
  • Supervise children during all activities, including indoor and outdoor play, meal times, and nap times, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Support children with their personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and maintaining hygiene.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment, including preparing and tidying up learning materials and play areas.
  • Foster positive social interactions among children, encouraging cooperation, sharing, and respect.
  • Observe and document children's behavior and progress, reporting insights and concerns to the lead teacher.
  • Assist in preparing snacks and meals, adhering to dietary guidelines and ensuring proper supervision during eating.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents or guardians under the guidance of the lead teacher, sharing updates on their child's day.
  • Support children with special needs or diverse learning styles, providing individualized attention as required.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all school policies, health and safety regulations, and emergency procedures.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children.
  • Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills, suitable for interacting with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team.
  • Basic understanding of early childhood development principles and age-appropriate activities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to obtain or current certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or Diploma in Early Childhood Development (ECD) or a related field.
  • At least one year of previous experience working in a kindergarten, preschool, or childcare setting.
  • Familiarity with positive behavior management techniques for young children.
  • Knowledge of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English and Swahili).
