Job Description

Career.zycto is excited to announce an opening for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Entry-Level Lab Technician to join our Research & Development team in Flankers, Montego Bay. This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate or an individual with foundational laboratory experience to immerse themselves in cutting-edge research and gain invaluable practical skills within a supportive and innovative environment. As a key member of our R&D department, you will play a crucial role in supporting our scientists and senior technicians in various experimental procedures, data collection, and laboratory maintenance. You’ll be involved in preparing samples, operating and maintaining analytical equipment, and ensuring strict adherence to laboratory protocols and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior lab personnel with experimental setup, execution, and breakdown, following established protocols precisely.
  • Prepare reagents, media, and samples accurately according to specifications for various research projects.
  • Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, pH meters, balances, and spectrophotometers.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and analyses, accurately recording observations and data in lab notebooks and electronic systems.
  • Maintain meticulous records of experiments, results, and procedures, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
  • Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety regulations, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and quality control standards.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, including ordering supplies, receiving shipments, and organizing stock.
  • Clean and sterilize laboratory glassware, equipment, and work areas to maintain a sterile and organized environment.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and report more complex problems to senior staff.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions regarding experimental design and results.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques (e.g., pipetting, sterile technique, solution preparation).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording and experimental execution.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and protocols diligently.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and GLP.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for data entry and documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a scientific field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Medical Technology).
  • Prior hands-on experience in a research or analytical laboratory setting (academic projects, internships, or volunteer work welcome).
  • Familiarity with specific analytical instruments relevant to biotechnology or materials science.
  • Understanding of statistical analysis basics for scientific data.
